1901-1953 – A binder filled with over 70 manufacturer’s photographs of steam and diesel locomotives built by the legendary American Locomotive Company (ALCO) along with photostatic and one original specification card
Notebook. The American Locomotive Company (ALCO) operated from 1901 to 1969, initially specializing in the production of steam locomotives but later diversifying and fabricating at various times diesel locomotives, generators, automobiles, steel, tanks, munitions, oil-production equipment, as well as heat exchangers for nuclear power plants. It was formed by the merger of seven locomotive manufacturers and Schenectady Locomotive Engine Manufactory of Schenectady, New York. After World War II, the company closed all of its manufacturing plants except those in Schenectady and Montreal. All are in nice shape.
There are ten pages of steam locomotives. including
a 0-6-0 switch engine built in 1901 for the Oregon Short Line. Others include
a 2-6-0 Mogul built for Lawrence Tennure & Company,
a 0-6-0T saddle tank engine build for the Mesabi Iron Company,
a 2-8-0 Consolidation built for the Cuba Can Sugar Company, and
the greatest of all locomotives, a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy built for the Union Pacific.
