One-page handwritten bill of sale for a “Negro boy named James.”

Gibson and Dyer Counties, Tennessee: 1844. Unbound. This one-page manuscript indenture measures 7.75” x 9”, and is in nice shape. It has some light soiling and an old small tape repair on the reverse. This document, Cabaniss states that “I have bargained sole & conveayed and by these presents do bargain sell and conveay unto the said Newsom Piner his heirs and assigns forever one Negro boy named James for life whom I warrant to be sound and well. . . .”.
