Masonic Fold-Over Novelty Postcard

Providence, RI: Livermore and Knight (possibly), 1903. Postcard. A very scarce fold-over novelty postcard, possibly published by Livermore and Knight. (If not, then it is certainly in the Livermore and Knight style.) Light wear including the bull's tail and farmer's hand. Franked with Scott #300 with a 1905 Buffalo, NY postmark. An offset postmark runs along the top of the farmer segment of the card. When folded, the card pictures a farmer clasping a bull's tail as its right rear hoof kicks him in the stomach. Inside, the card contains a lengthy, detailed, and customized invitation, continuing the bull's tail theme, for a special monthly meeting of the Zuleika Grotto that would be attended by the Grand Monarch, Grover W. Wende. Members were encouraged to "bring at least one victim with you. Brush your fez, . . . stay late, eat, drink and be hilarious." The Grotto, formally known as The Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm, is an appendant Masonic organization, similar to, but much smaller than the Shriners. Near Fine.
