Circa 1890. Colorful "Darwin's Grandpapa" tradecard for Merchant's Gargling Oil. Shows an ape holding a bottle of the oil and saying, "If I am Darwin's Grandpapa, It follows don't you see, That what is good for man and beast, Is doubly good for me." Text in upper right offers a $1000 reward to anyone who can prove there is a better liniment for man or animal than Merchant's Gargling Oil. Light soiling, two dampstain spots on reverse.
