One of the hardest-to-find of all the Big Little Books. 425 pages with 3 pages of ads. Very nice copy. Clean pages with no writing, scribbles, or coloring. Tight binding with intact spine and unbroken hinges. Light cover wear. Full page b/w illustrations on nearly every other page. Written by the son of L. Frank Baum. Embroiled Whitman in a lawsuit with Reilly & Lee, then the publisher of the Oz series. Reilly & Lee prevailed and Whitman did not issue a second printing, nor did it publish a follow-on Oz book by Frank Baum. See accompanying scanned image.

(1916) Early pre-1935 printing with 12 colored plates. No advertisements. Color plates have captions. Illustrated endpapers. Tight binding with sound hinges. Clean pages with a couple of minor finger smudges. Some light tanning to edges of several pages. One color plate has a corner crease in lower margin that does not affect illustration. Very nice dustjacketed copy of the photoplay edition released in conjunction with the MGM movie starring Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Frank Morgan, Burt Larh, Jack Haley, Billy Burke, and Margaret Hamilton. 1st state printing with illustrated endpapers showing 10 sepia stills from the movie and black bands on spine. All 8 color plates firmly attached. Tight binding with sound hinges. Clean pages; partially erased gift inscription. Light cover wear. Later reissued as The Boy Fortune Hunters in Alaska under another Baum pseudonym, Floyd Akers. Tight binding, neatly mended hinges. Pages have some scattered light spotting and a few finger smudges. Cover has some minor soiling and edgewear, mostly at corners and spine ends. 1910 gift inscription and crossed out price on front free endpaper. Protected by an archival cover.
