Unrecorded A Romance of Coon Hollow (6 Different Playbills and Programs) Various Various 1907 Pamphlet Very Good Collection of six playbills and programs for the 1906-07 touring company of "A Romance of Coon Hollow," a very popular vaudeville play (light musical comedy) that was first produced in 1895 at the Fourteenth Street Theater in New York. Although the play was billed as an "idyll of the Tennessee mountains, it featured astounding (for the time) special electical effects, the great steamboat race between the Robt. E. Lee and the Natchez, a real operational cotton press, a thrilling duel with dynamite, several black-face actors, a troop of "celebrated buck and wing dancers," and a "colored plantation band." These programs are from the Huntington Theater in Huntington, Indiana; a theater in Delaware, Ohio; the Clark Opera House in Norwich, New York; the Didsbury Theatre in Walden, New York; the Opera House in Thomaston, Connecticut; and the Gem Theatre in Westfield, Massachusetts. It seems likely that these were collected by Miss Emily Andersen, the actress who played "Clyde Harrod, a girl of the mountains," as her named is highlighted in pencil in several of the programs.
