Illustration identifies Taylor as General and not President, so it possible this could chapbook could have been published in the late 1840s. Clean pages, clear printing. No writing or scribbles. Light foxing. All pages present and attached to cover. Blue paper cover has some soiling, but little wear.

9 Unlisted Brother Gardner and the Lime Kiln Club Trade Card
1886 Trade Card Near Fine 
Tradecard for Dixon's Stove Polish features Brother Gardner giving a speech to the other members of the Lime Kiln Club. Brother Gardner and the Lime Kiln Club were created by Charles Bertrand Lewis and featured in his humorous column in the Detroit Free Press. The characters were racist stereotypes, spoke in black dialect, and caricatured the lives and pretensions of African Americans. Lewis's columns were compiled in book form and proved to be best-sellers across the country. This card shows all of the important club members and identifies them on the reverse. The reverse also contains Brother Gardners speech extoling the Dixon's Stove Polish and praising Brother Shindig for making the stove into "a shining example for de rest of mankind." Clean card with bright colors. Slight discoloration on the reverse.

Washington Government Printing Office 1864 Hard Cover Good + No Jacket 
Scarce. 1864 printing of the official manual of cavalry and dragoon tactics originally published in 1841. This manual belonged to Frank Michler, who was commissioned as a cavalry officer in the 5th Cavalry Regiment in 1870. Michler received brevet promotions to First Lieutenant and Captain for gallantry in action against the Apaches in Arizona. He served as a Lieutenant Colonel during the Puerto Rican campaign during the Spanish-American War and was retired from the Army in 1901 just days before his death. The manual was apparently accessioned into the War Department Library following his death. 450 pages with illustrations. 120 plates (many folding and many showing dragoons/cavalrymen using sabres and lances.) 20 pages of music for bugle calls and a quick march. Tight binding with a few old library reinforcements to hinges and between some signatures. Clean pages with owner's info on front free endpaper. Several pages have Michler's pencil highlighting. Several War Department labels, handstamps, and pocket, some with deaccession markings. Folding plates all present and in exceptionally nice condition. Wear to cover, heaviest at top of spine covering. Gilt spine title and date (Cavalry Tactics / 1841) faded but legible.
