351 pages. B/w illustrations. Piano roll catalog for the American Piano Company (Ampico), a leading producer of high-quality player pianos. "A great number of distinguished classical and popular pianists, such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Leo Ornstein, Winifred MacBride, and Marguerite Volavy, recorded for Ampico, and their rolls are a legacy of 19th and early 20th century aesthetic and musical practice." Each catalog entry includes the name of the composer, performer, catalog number, roll price, and short but comprehensive description of the performance. Tight binding with sound hinges. Clean pages; a few of the pages have pencil tick-marks next to catalog entries. Some creasing to free enpapers. Cover has some minor wear, heaviest at spine head.

Hard-to-find Buffalo Bill children's book in better shape than usually found. Complete with all 16 pages including the cover. 8 full-page color illustrations, 1 double-page color illustration, other two-tone in-text illustrations. Color illustrations include Buffalo Bill shooting a buffalo, Buffalo Bill herding cattle, Buffalo Bill attacked by Indians, Buffalo Bill raiding and Indian camp, an Overland stagecoach climbing a mountain pass, Indians attacking an Overland stagecoach, Settlers in a covered wagon, Indians spying on a wagon train, cowboys roping horses, and Buffalo Bill doing riding tricks. Original string binding is holding fast. Looks like two leafs may have been reattached. All of the pages have some soiling and wear. The cover is in pretty nice shape; looks like spine splits have been mended.

Illustration identifies Taylor as General and not President, so it possible this could chapbook could have been published in the late 1840s. Clean pages, clear printing. No writing or scribbles. Light foxing. All pages present and attached to cover. Blue paper cover has some soiling, but little wear.

Complete: Frontispiece, thirteen introductory pages including an illustrated title page, and 353 text pages followed by a one-page notice that the publisher would soon be printing another volume about the French Revolution. Burgundy, half-leather with five raised bands. Gilt filet, decorations, and lettering. Top edge gilt. Recounts the last days of the French monarchy including the execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette as well as the imprisonement of their children. "Deduced principally from accounts by eye-witnesses" including M. Hue, Clery, Edgeworth, and Madame Royale (the Duchess of Angouleme). Tight binding with sound hinges. Clean pages, some foxing to the frontispiece and title page. Cover has some shelf-wear. Spine darkened. Gilt lettering is legible. Armorial bookplate of George Frederick Tyler.

Washington Government Printing Office 1864 Hard Cover Good + No Jacket
Scarce. 1864 printing of the official manual of cavalry and dragoon tactics originally published in 1841. This manual belonged to Frank Michler, who was commissioned as a cavalry officer in the 5th Cavalry Regiment in 1870. Michler received brevet promotions to First Lieutenant and Captain for gallantry in action against the Apaches in Arizona. He served as a Lieutenant Colonel during the Puerto Rican campaign during the Spanish-American War and was retired from the Army in 1901 just days before his death. The manual was apparently accessioned into the War Department Library following his death. 450 pages with illustrations. 120 plates (many folding and many showing dragoons/cavalrymen using sabres and lances.) 20 pages of music for bugle calls and a quick march. Tight binding with a few old library reinforcements to hinges and between some signatures. Clean pages with owner's info on front free endpaper. Several pages have Michler's pencil highlighting. Several War Department labels, handstamps, and pocket, some with deaccession markings. Folding plates all present and in exceptionally nice condition. Wear to cover, heaviest at top of spine covering. Gilt spine title and date (Cavalry Tactics / 1841) faded but legible.

This jigsaw puzzle set has been characterized as "the earliest and most racist" children's toy published in the United States. Exceptionally scarce. There were apparent two different puzzle sets in the series; the other set appears to be slightly less scarce. This set is complete with two puzzles (each with all their pieces), box, and picture guide for one of the puzzles (the box top illustration is the picture guide for the other). Puzzle pieces are in nice shape with some light soiling. Picture guide has some old tape on reverse. Box shows some wear and soiling but the top illustration and lettering is bright and colorful. Pencil gift inscription under box lid.

Text in upper right offers a $1000 reward to anyone who can prove there is a better liniment for man or animal than Merchant's Gargling Oil. Light soiling, two dampstain spots on reverse.

Boston & Charlestown, MA Free Democratic State Committee & Republican Club 1854 Leaf Very Good
Two early contribution receipts; one from the Boston Republican Club in 1856 and the other from the Free Democratic State Committee of Massachusetts in 1854. The Free Democratic Party was one of several splinter political parties (e.g., Liberty Party, Free Soilers, etc.) that formed in opposition to the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, which repealed the Missouri Compromise and opened up the new territories of the United States to slavery. The Free Democratic Party quickly banded together with other anti-slavery parties to form the Republican Pary in 1855. The Free Democratic Party receipt was printed by J. S. Potter & Company; the Republican Party receipt is manuscript. Both receipts are made out to Oliver Smith, a prominent Massachusetts businessman, philanthropist, and statesman.
