New York Francis P. Harper 1901 First Edition, Limited Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket 
Scarce; very hard to find as a complete set. Complete 10 volume "first printing" set. Print run was limited to 250 copies. Each volume is in red cloth with gilt lettering and uncut pages. Tooker's famous reference set. Tooker is considered to have been the most knowlegeable and in-depth researcher of North Eastern Coastal American Indians (especially Long Island Indians), however his expertise, as evidenced by the works collected in this series, ranged as far south as Virginia and as far inland as the Upper Midwest The ten volumes are: 1) The Origin of the Name Manhattan, 2) Indian Name Places in the Borough of Brooklyn, 3) The Names of Susquehanna and Chesapeake, 4) Indian Names for Long Island, 5) The Algonquian Names of the Siouan Trives of Virginia, 6) The Bocootawanaukes or The Fire Nation, 7) Some Indian Fishing Stations Upon Long Island, 8) The Algonquian Terms Patawomeke (Potomac) and Massawomeke, 9) The Names Chickahominy, Pamunkey, and the Kuskarawaokes of Captain John Smith, and 10) The Significance of John Eliot's Natick and the Name Merrimac. Tight bindings with sound hinges. Clean pages with occasional finger smudges or pencil annotations. Some minor wear and soiling to covers; light sunning to the spines. Once the property of the Mercantiel Library of New York, with handstamps with "Removed" and "LibX" annotations in pencil. Some dampstaining to Volume 2.
