An original Mercator map from the first English language edition of Historia Mundi, or Mercator's Atlas. Entitled "Holsatia" within a strapwork cartouche also showing a scale of miles. A further title, "The Third Table of Norwey," appears in the left margin, outside the platemark. A very interesting map of what today is northern Germany. Covers Hamburg and the Elbe in the south through Schleswig Holstein to Kiel and beyond. English text on reverse. Approximately 7.25" x 5.25" (18.5 x 14 cm). Clean with almost no wear. Wide margins; some toning at edges.
