[Based on the Story By Helen Bannerman] A New Story of Little Black Sambo Racine, Wisconsin Whitman 1926 Hard Cover Near Fine Very Good Thurston, Clara Bell and Earnest Vetsch Very hard-to-find hardcover edition with even more scarce dustjacket. Whitman sequel to Bannerman's original tale. As punishment for almost losing his "Sunday clothes" to the tigers, Black Mumbo takes them away and makes Sambo wear a native grass skirt. Great color and b/w illustrations. Tight binding. Clean pages. Cover has some light wear, mostly at ends of spine. Some wear and light soiling to dust jacket; small old tape repair on reverse. Bannerman, Helen All About Little Black Sambo New York Cupples & Leon 1917 Pictorial Cover Very Good Very Good Gruelle, Johnny Nice copy of a hard-to-find Sambo edition. 47 pages. 8 color plates with in-text b/w illustrations throughout. Racist caricatures by Johnny Gruelle (of Raggedy Ann fame) make it clear why many have objected to this title; these are not sweet, little, black child illustrations. Tight binding with sound hinges. Clean pages with no writing or scribbles. Light gray cover with maroon lettering and bright, colorful pictorial paste-down; Covering worn at head and .5" missing at tail of spine. Nice dust jacket with illustration of Sambo and Big Jumbo has some light soiling and wear, heaviest at tail of spine, but is not missing any large pieces. Price:
