Attributed to Dame Juliana Berners The Treatyse of Fysshynge Wyth an Angle London William Pickering 1827 First Thus Half-Leather Very Good No Jacket 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall Originally published in 1496 in The Book of St Alban's by Wynken de Worde. One of the earliest books on fishing in English. Said to have been a major influence on Izaak Walton. Facsimile edition. 41 pages. Frontispiece is from a later Worde edition and said to be the first illustration of a man fishing with a rod. Six wood cut figures of fishing equipment are included in the text. Tight binding with sound hinges. Clean pages; several spots of light foxing. Minor cover wear. Gilt spine lettering is in good shape.

Includes photos of tin houses, toy soldiers, a soft monkey, and lots of dolls. Full-page photographs alternate with text pages. Tight binding with original cloth spine in nice shape. Hinges have old neatly done cloth reinforcement. Clean pages with an occasional finger smudge. Several leaves have faint corner folds. Pencil gift inscription on front free endpaper. Some soiling and wear to cover. Faint trace of Febreze if you sniff the book up close. A very nice example of a very scarce children's book.
