Nast, Thomas Uncle Sam, Brother Jonathan, Yankee Doodle Prints New York McLoughlin Brothers 1876 Unbound Near Fine 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Nast, Thomas I have two Thomas Nast Uncle Sam prints still available from "Yankee Doodle," which was published between around 1876. The prints actually show Brother Jonathan in the role of Yankee Doodle. Brother Jonathan preceded Uncle Sam in popularity and illustrations of him can usually be distinguished by his brown top hat with long feather and lack of a goatee. THIS PURCHASE IS FOR ONE PRINT ONLY. If you simply place an order, I'll pick out a nice one for you. Or, please contact me if you like a specific print or would like to purchase more than one print. The prints show Yankee Doodle Riding On His Pony to the Cheers of a Crowd and Yankee Doodle Causing Havoc in a Native American Camp. Both prints are in nice shape. Some light soiling to the margins.

Webster, Geo. P. Santa Claus and His Works McLoughlin Brothers 1869 Soft Cover Good No Jacket 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall Nast, Thomas circa 1869/1870s. 22 pages including cover and 6 full page color illustrations (printed on one side only). Original sewn binding with additional hand-sewn reinforcement. The first book publication of Nast's famous Santa illustrations originally published in b/w in Harpers in 1866; coupled with Webster's poem. These are the illustrations and poem that defined Santa as we know him today; it shows him as a toymaker, identifies his home as the North Pole, shows his suit as red with white trim, has him watching children's behavior (using a large telescope), pictures Santa's book with names of good and bad children, etc. Sewn binding is holding well. Clean and bright full-page illustrations; some light toning to text pages. Cover has some minor soiling and wear; small chip on front with 2" split at top of spine fold. Quite scarce.
