Originally published in 1496 in The Book of St Alban's by Wynken de Worde. One of the earliest books on fishing in English. Said to have been a major influence on Izaak Walton. Facsimile edition. 41 pages. Frontispiece is from a later Worde edition and said to be the first illustration of a man fishing with a rod. Six wood cut figures of fishing equipment are included in the text. Tight binding with sound hinges. Clean pages; several spots of light foxing. Minor cover wear. Gilt spine lettering is in good shape.

Almost no wear; slightly bumped corners. Minor sunning. The first of the Nicolas editions and the first published by Pickering to be printed by Charles Whittingham. "This edition has been acclaimed as the finest Angler ever published," (Horne, 43) and "one of the handsomest publications of modern times, an ornament to the Angler's Library, unique of its time, and perhaps destined to remain so," (Bibliotheca Piscatoria).
