Individual plates dated from 1816-1820. 106 hand-colored botanical plates (each usually illustrating more than one plant). 2 colored frontispieces and 1 colored title page. Vol 1, 790 pages. Vol 2, 885 pages plus a list of plates. Prints are crisp with excellent color. Tight bindings with neatly done, old gutter reinforcement. Clean pages. Minor water stain to upper fore-edge corner of Vol 1 with corresponding discoloration of some leaves. Original full leather bindings have typical wear. Original red, black and gilt spine labels show some wear. An encyclopedia of plants and herbal knowledge augmented with cooking and gardening information. Plates are from original drawings of live plants as well as copies of famous botanical artists. See Great Flower Books, p58. A very presentable set that is uncommon to find with original endpapers and binding.
